The Greatest Work of my Life
in SEEing the Greatest Beauty of the Artists at Work
When I was around three years old, I remember sitting by my sister’s piano, watching one of my father’s friends play jazz—a music that was prohibited in Russia at the time. Something about those sounds left an imprint on my entire being. I didn’t know then what role jazz would play in my life, but I felt its call deep within.
Years later, I found myself in New York City, photographing jazz artists—especially during recording sessions and for album covers. A dream I didn’t even know I had come true.
This work, for me, is more than capturing portraits. It’s a devotion. A way to witness and reveal the Divine in the Artist. And it's a quiet homage to my father’s love for jazz, the friend who brought it into our home, and the part of my soul that resonates with the improvised beauty of this music.
My intention, when working with the jazz artists, is to bring the imagery as close as possible to the music, so that when your listener comes in contact with the photograph, they can get a sense of the journey your music will offer to them.
I had an absolute honor to see my work published by Wall Street Journal, DownBeat, Financial Times, Stereogum, JazzTimes, Jazziz Magazine, and Jazzwise among others.
